CONNECTING AT THE CORE

As humans, we find connecting so natural and organic in the way we start belonging to each other. While I interpret the connection and dissect it in a way we think, act and behave, I find it fascinating how we play different roles in impacting ourselves and everyone around us.

 

Connecting with self:

Connecting with self refers to the process of becoming more aware of and understanding one’s own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, as well as cultivating a deeper connection and relationship with oneself. This can include activities such as mindfulness, self-reflection, and self-care.

 

Connecting with others:

You can connect with others by building and maintaining meaningful relationships with other people, characterized by mutual understanding, empathy, and trust. This can involve communication, active listening, and engaging in shared experiences or activities. Connecting with others can improve overall well-being, provide support, and enhance social and emotional growth.

 

Connecting with system:

Connecting with a system is understanding and interacting with an organized set of interrelated elements or components that work together to achieve a common goal or purpose. This can refer to a wide range of systems, including physical, social, economic, and political systems, and can involve understanding how they function, how they are interconnected, and how they impact individuals and communities. Connecting with a system can lead to increased knowledge and understanding, as well as opportunities to improve or influence its functioning.

 

Once we have understood how connecting adds value and gives different perspectives, let’s see how connecting with self, others and the system can help leaders…

 

1. Self-awareness: Connecting with oneself helps leaders better understand their strengths, weaknesses, and values, allowing them to lead from a place of authenticity and self-confidence.

 

2. Empathy: Connecting with others promotes empathy, allowing leaders to better understand the perspectives, needs, and motivations of those they lead, leading to more effective communication and collaboration.

 

3. Systemic thinking: Connecting with the system enables leaders to understand the interconnectedness and interdependence of various components, leading to more informed and effective decision making.

 

4. Collaboration: Connecting with others facilitates collaboration, leading to more creative solutions and increased engagement among team members.

 

5. Resilience: Connecting with self helps leaders develop emotional and mental resilience, allowing them to better manage stress and adversity.

 

Overall, connecting with self, others, and the system can enhance a leader’s ability to lead with clarity, authenticity and impact, fostering a more positive and productive work environment.
