ALIGNING YOUR EXPECTATIONS WITH TEAM’S PERFORMANCE

Aligning a leader’s expectations with the team’s performance is crucial for the success in setting and achieving the organisation’s goals. Here are few questions I feel we need to ask ourselves while we review it:

 

1. Are we establishing clear goals and objectives for the team? The leader needs to establish clear goals and objectives for the team. These can be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) to ensure that they are aligned with the team’s performance or any other tool relevant and in line with the organisation’s vision.

 

2. Are we communicating our expectations clearly? The leader needs to communicate their expectations clearly to the team. This can be done through regular team meetings, performance reviews and individual check-ins.

 

3. Are we leading by example? The leader should lead by example and demonstrate the behaviors and values they expect from the team. This can be done by showing a strong work ethic, being respectful, and communicating effectively.

 

4. Are we providing regular feedback? The leader should provide regular feedback to the team on their performance. This can be done through regular performance reviews and individual check-ins. Let the feedback be constructive and in line with the outcome.

 

5. Are we enhancing their skills & knowledge through training and development? The leader should provide training and development opportunities to team members to help them improve their skills and knowledge. This can be done through training programs, workshops, and mentorship opportunities through domain expert trainers, coaches & counsellors.

 

6. Do we encourage collaboration amongst the team members? The leader should encourage collaboration among team members to help them achieve their goals. This can be done through team-building activities, group projects, and open communication channels.

 

These are the few considerations we can have and by implementing these guidelines, we can align our expectations with the team’s performance and ensure that everyone is working towards the same goals.
